Corcadorca was founded by Pat Kiernan as a professional theatre company in Cork in 1991. Since then it has become an integral part of the cultural life of the city, consistently producing innovative, exciting and accessible theatre for the people of Cork and beyond.
The company is committed to developing and producing new writing through its biennial Corcadorca Playwright Award ("Hatch 22" and "Banshee Makers"), and by commissioning new work from more established writers ("Disco Pigs", Enda Walsh, and "Bruen's Twist", Eamonn Sweeney).Through its site-specific work, Corcadorca has created a unique place for itself in Irish theatre. Productions such as "A Christmas Carol", Cork CityGaol, " Clockwork Orange", "Sir Henry's, "The Trial of Jesus", Patrick's Hilland "A Midsummer Night's Dream", Fitzgerald's Park and Fota Gardens, take place in non-theatre venues, often outdoor, and have proven massively popular with critics and public alike.
